Multicem – soil stabilisation for a sustainable foundation

Stabilise the soil with lower carbon dioxide emissions

Multicem is an innovative and climate-adapted binder for soil stabilisation. By replacing traditional lime cement (KC) with Multicem, carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by up to 70%. At the same time, Multicem offers excellent stabilisation properties, making it an effective and sustainable choice for construction and infrastructure projects.

Environmental and economic benefits

Multicem is a future-proof solution for soil reinforcement and is used in projects where stability and sustainability are crucial. Multicem is a mixture of 50% CKD (Cement Kiln Dust), a chemical product from cement production, and 50% cement. CKD is a non-virgin material, which means it has a lower environmental impact. Multicem is delivered ready-mixed directly from the factory and transported by environmentally efficient ship to the depot, further reducing its climate impact.

Proven quality and high strength

Multicem has been used for over a decade in Norway by, among others, Jernbaneverket and Vegvesendet with very good results. Since 2015, Heidelberg Materials Cement has offered Multicem on the Swedish market as part of the company's commitment to climate-improved solutions.
Tests carried out both in the field and in laboratories at the Swedish Geotechnical Institute (SGI) show that Multicem has a higher and more consistent strength gain than traditional KC 50/50. The product is also BASTA-registered* and meets the Swedish Transport Administration's technical requirements (TK Geo) for geotechnical structures.

Effective soil stabilisation

Mixing Multicem into the soil changes its properties and strengthens it in a short time. The combination of CKD and the rapid strength development of cement results in stable structures that can withstand high loads. Multicem is used to stabilise roads, railway embankments, slopes and water pipes and is a reliable solution for long-term sustainable construction projects.

Several advantages with a low climate footprint

Multicem offers high performance at a lower cost and with significantly lower environmental impact than traditional alternatives. With a carbon footprint of approximately 396 kg/tonne and a total saving of 52–70% CO₂ per tonne of finished product compared to KC, Multicem contributes to sustainable community development.

In addition, Multicem reduces the need for mass movement and provides effective soil stabilisation. By stabilising existing masses, unnecessary removal and transport of new virgin materials is avoided, which reduces emissions from transport and conserves natural resources, thereby reducing the climate impact of projects. As a customer, you get a cost-effective and solid foundation to build on.

Used in leading projects

Multicem has already been used in several prominent Swedish infrastructure projects. Among other things, it has stabilised the ground in residential areas such as Ulriksdal in Solna, Vega in Haninge and Täby Park. It has also been used to reinforce flood protection in Kristianstad and in major infrastructure projects such as the Rotebro interchange and road 160 on Orust. And the landslide on the E6 motorway in Stenungsund.

Choose Multicem for a more stable, sustainable and cost-effective foundation for your construction projects.
